Olympus Stylus 790SW
Olympus Stylus 790SW R
eviews: I bought the camera for my daughter who had just purchased a kayak. Thought it would be perfect for capturing wildlife pics along Michigan streams without fear of water damage. The order arrived on my doorstep within minutes of the time that she drove up with the new boat on top of her car. Perfect timing. That weekend she toured the Kalamzoo river with friends and managed to swamp the new boat in fast water. Suddenly realized what a worthy gift this was. Certainly the ideal camera for any boater because we all get wet one way or another at one time or another. And the quality is everything they said. Jewelry beautiful as well.
Olympus Stylus 790SW Reviews: I bought this camera to use while backpacking and canoeing. I was attracted to the waterproof and shockproof features, and it is indeed waterproof. The picture quality is good, but not outstanding, and the various shooting modes are very useful when I remember to use them. It has some serious drawbacks, though. The battery life is poor, so a week-long trip would require at least two extra fully charged batteries. The LCD display is barely visible in bright sunlight and there is no optical viewfinder as an alternative. Finally, like all cameras this size, it’s easy to hold it crooked, shake it while taking the picture, or get a finger in front of the lens. I don’t regret buying it and I’ll use it a lot, but I wish it didn’t have these drawbacks.

Olympus Stylus 790SW Reviews: In the past two years, ive owned a canon powershot, and a kodak easyshare camera. This Olympus is definatly the most tolerant camera ive had. I bought it mainly for the underwater capability and its definitly exeeded my expectations. For me, photos taken underwater have come out extremely clear, and theyre really fun. I took it with me to florida, and most of the time i had it, it was underwater, and nothing has happened to damage it in any way. It continues to take clear, and impressive photos outside and under water, and i definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a small compact camera that is especially durable when it comes to almost anything.
Olympus Stylus 790SW Reviews: I purchased this camera in November because I wanted a waterproof camera. I was worried that it would be slow at taking pictures like the Nikon point and shoots. After using it for a week, I had decided to buy my sister one for Christmas. It is a great camera that easily fits it your pocket and you can carry it anywhere. The photo quality isn’t quite as good as my Canon. I have taken this camera to the pool, waterpark, beach, and on a few ski trips. The underwater photo quality is amazing; even better than the out of water photo quality. As many have suggested, if you don’t need a waterproof or rugged camera buy something else and save the money.
Olympus Stylus 790SW Reviews: I would return this camera if I could. I bought the camera mainly for the waterproof feature. I wanted something that could replace the disposable waterproof cameras I buy occaionally. I should have saved my money and stuck with the disposables. I took this camera snorkelling and it was under only a few feet of water. After drying it off when I had finished I found water had leaked in to both the USB and battery/memory card ports. I returned the camera to Olympus under the warrenty and they sent me a new camera. Unfortunately that one leaked too afer submerging it in the sink. So Olympus suggested I send it back. At least that time they payed the shipping. But the camera still leaked after they returned it.
Olympus didn’t find anything wrong with it but couldn’t tell me what they had tried with the camera when I called customer service. So they suggested I send back it again. I had to pay for the shipping a second time. Again the camera leaked when they returned it to me and they insist there is nothing wrong with the camera when they try it out. It still leaks under a few inches of water. Unfortunately I can’t physically take the camera somewhere to show someone the water damage. Olympus has suggested that I return the camera to them for a fourth time but since they have previously insisted that there is nothing wrong with it, I see no point. So I guess I’m stuck with a waterproof camera that leaks.
Olympus Stylus 790SW Reviews: I bought this camera for two purposes. First to use in my ski business. I can let employees take it on the mountain to get ski shots, waterproof & shatterproof, important features for this use. Second I took it on a family vacation to Kauai and wanted to use it for snorkeling. Poor quality pictures underwater, a waste of time to use it in this way. It does take very good picture on land however, that is why I give it a 3 star, 2.5 stars would be more accurate. If I had to do it over I would buy a Canon, you can count on Canon quality. I chose the Olympus Stylus because of the underwater photography. It will work out fine for me because it primarily is for business abuse. For personal use buy a better camera.
